To sell real estate in Minnesota, a person must have a license from the Minnesota Department of Commerce. Before obtaining a license, a person is required to attend 90 hours of approved real estate education, pass an exam, and apply for a license with Pederson Realty to the Department of Commerce. Pederson Realty’s educational partner is Kaplan.

Educational Outline

The program consists of three, 30-hour courses to fulfill the salesperson educational requirement. The first is Course I, which covers the basic principles of Minnesota real estate. After Course I is the optional License Exam Preparation Course. After the exam, Course II and Course III teach you the necessities of doing business as a real estate agent. Our expert instructors will give you real-life scenarios and case studies in teaching you how to be successful in your new career.

The Licensing Exam

The exam is multiple-choice, and is divided into two separate portions. The “National” portion addresses information of a general nature such as contract law, real estate ownership, financing sources, valuation and agency law. The “State Specific” portion covers information unique to Minnesota, primarily state laws and regulations. Kaplan prepares you to pass this exam with flying colors.

License Application

Your license application must be signed by your employing broker and must include your licensing fee and exam results, plus proof of completion of Course I, Course II, and Course III.

If you currently hold a Minnesota salesperson or broker license and would like to obtain a Wisconsin license, Kaplan offers Minnesota to Wisconsin Real Estate License Course.
